It’s been staring at me for years from my bookshelf. Cocktails for Book Lovers, by Tessa Smith McGovern. Now, with my own book out – that features a bar! – I think it’s time to give this delightfully boozy tome its due. I’ll be writing and drinking my way through it, one Friday at a time.
This week’s pick is the Gin Rickey of Great Gatsby fame.
Why I picked it. Today is Earth Day – and a beautiful one in my corner of the Northeast. This mixture of gin, lime juice and seltzer felt like the kind of cocktail for the day. Light, refreshing, with just the right amount of fizz.
It is decidedly not a gin a tonic, so if you have a sweet tooth, add a splash of simple syrup.
Read as you sip. Not a Fitzgerald fan? Try The Chosen and the Beautiful, by Nghi Vo. It’s a sumptuous re-telling of Gatsby from the point of view of Jordan Baker, Daisy Buchanan’s longtime friend and Nick Carroway’s love interest.
